eZ Cash is one of Sri Lanka's longest-running mobile money services, run by Dialog. Its real value is not for people who already have full bank accounts and apps — it is for the large number of Sri Lankans who want to send, receive and store money using just a mobile phone, without a traditional bank relationship. That makes it a genuine financial-inclusion tool as much as a convenience.
What you can do with it
An eZ Cash wallet sits on your mobile number and lets you hold a cash balance and move it around. The core uses are sending money to another person, receiving money, paying utility and other bills, topping up mobile reloads, and paying participating merchants. Because it is tied to your phone rather than a bank branch, it works for people far from a bank and for quick everyday transfers where opening a bank transfer would be overkill.
Cash-in and cash-out
The feature that makes mobile money work in practice is the agent network. You add money to your wallet (cash-in) or withdraw it (cash-out) at a registered agent — typically a local shop or communication centre — by handing over or receiving physical cash while the equivalent moves in or out of your wallet. This network is what lets someone without a bank account still convert between cash and digital money easily.
How to register
Registration is designed to be simple: you sign up against your Dialog mobile number, complete the basic identity verification required for a mobile wallet (your NIC), and set a PIN that secures every transaction. Once active, you operate the wallet through the menu or app, confirming each payment with your PIN.
Who it is most useful for
- People without a bank account who still need to send and receive money.
- Anyone needing quick person-to-person transfers without sharing bank details.
- Paying bills and mobile reloads from a phone, including for family members.
- Areas where agents are closer and more convenient than bank branches.
If you already use a full bank app, you will find most of these functions there too; eZ Cash earns its place where a bank account is absent, inconvenient, or simply more than the task requires. As with any wallet, keep your PIN private and confirm the recipient and amount before approving a transfer.
